Pilgrimage to Guadalupe

Join Fr. Gregory Santy, OP (Assistant Chaplain) and Cecilia Ramirez (Director of Evangelization) on Campus Ministry’s Guadalupe Pilgrimage: In the Footsteps of Our Lady.

In December 1531, Mary appeared to a humble indigenous man named Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill in what is present-day Mexico City. She asked that a shrine be built there so that all people could find comfort through her, the Mother of God. The bishop of the region agreed to build the shrine after Our Lady’s image miraculously appeared on Juan Diego’s tilma (cloak). The miracle resulted in the conversion of millions to the Catholic faith and significantly shaped Mexico’s history and culture.

During our pilgrimage, we will visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City where the tilma remains on display for veneration. We will also travel to Teotihuacan, an ancient religious center; the Church of Santo Domingo in Puebla, founded by some of the first Dominican friars in Mexico; and the tomb of Blessed Miguel Pro, a priest and martyr of the Cristero War.

This pilgrimage is open to Providence College students, faculty, and staff.
