Division of Mission and Ministry

Welcome

Welcome to the Catholic and Dominican heart of Providence College. As Executive Vice President for Mission, it is my joy to invite you into the living tradition that animates our community. Our mission is rooted in the search for veritas, truth—a truth that draws us deeper into the mystery of God, the richness of creation, and the dignity of every person. Whether you are a student, staff member, faculty colleague, or visitor, I hope this site helps you discover how our Catholic and Dominican identity can shape your studies, your relationships, and your life. We hope you find it to be a transformative source of life.

While this mission is carried throughout the institution, our division works to give it concrete form and support in pastoral and strategic ways across campus through the work of the Office of Mission and Ministry, Campus Ministry/Chaplain’s Office, and the Center for Catholic and Dominican Studies. Each plays a vital role in sustaining the spiritual, intellectual, and communal life of the College. You can learn more about each below.

With Gratitude,

Fr. Thomas More Garrett, O.P., J.D.

Office of Mission & Ministry

The Office of Mission & Ministry coordinates the college-wide process of maintaining, enhancing, and promoting the distinctive mission of Providence College as a Catholic and Dominican institution.

The word mission comes from the Latin, missio, which means “to be sent,” while ministry means to serve. We aim to develop and nurture a community culture in which all members participate in and benefit from a common mission inspired by faith and aided by grace. We provide leadership in articulating our distinctive mission through initiatives such as the publication of Providence College: Our Catholic & Dominican Mission. We also host formation opportunities for faculty and staff that serve as introductions to and engagements with the integrating mission of the college across departments and divisions.

Campus Ministry/Office of the Chaplain

Campus Ministry is a resource for every student at Providence College. Students can pray in St. Dominic Chapel at Mass or on their own. Students can also participate in and help lead dozens of programs that offer engagement with the faith, prayer, service, and friendship. Campus Ministry staff and student leaders serve our students and the wider campus community in hopes to share our mission: Veritas.

Center for Catholic & Dominican Studies

The Center for Catholic and Dominican Studies invites students, faculty, and the broader community into a dynamic encounter with the Catholic and Dominican intellectual tradition. Rooted in the pursuit of veritas and the conviction that faith and reason illuminate one another, the Center offers a space for formation, dialogue, and inquiry into the most urgent questions of our time—especially those concerning the dignity and destiny of the human person. Guided by the example of Dominican saints and thinkers, the Center fosters intellectual hospitality, academic excellence, and concern for the common good.
