Mission Collaborative

The Mission Collaborative brings faculty and staff colleagues together to explore about what makes Providence College distinctive: our Catholic and Dominican mission. We meet in small groups, read key texts, and share insights about how this mission speaks to our work and community life.

We offer a program each semester. The fall program is designed for faculty and staff who are newer to the college and want a grounding in the mission. The spring program turns to special topics for anyone on campus who wants to go deeper.

At the heart of the program is the pursuit of truth — a foundational principle that, when embraced, serves as a steady guide in how we live, work, lead, and care for others. The Mission Collaborative reminded me that our mission isn’t abstract — it’s something we can actively live out as educators, colleagues, friends, and leaders.

Fall 2025 Mission Collaborative

Designed for newer members of the community, this initiative gives participants a welcoming opportunity to learn about our Catholic and Dominican mission. Over the course of four curated sessions during the fall semester, participants will read about and discuss the vision of Catholic universities, as well as the intellectual and spiritual ethos of the Dominican order. Whatever your role may be, you’ll explore practical ways to share in this mission and form a cross-campus network in the process. No prior knowledge is necessary; in fact, we hope for participants to fully engage from all backgrounds.

Spring Mission Collaborative

Our spring Mission Collaborative invites all fall program alumni to explore a theme or topic from the mission in more depth. Any member of the PC community is welcome to participate if interested.

In Spring 2025, we gathered to explore Contemplation in the Workplace. A three-session series, participants discussed how to weave contemplation into the fabric of their professional lives, be they in the office, the classroom, or meetings.

They have come from every administrative division and from all four schools at the college.

Here’s what some have to say:

The Mission Collaborative provided me with a meaningful and intimate experience to better understand Providence’s College’s Catholic and Dominican mission through the assigned readings and group discussions with Mission and Ministry staff and other curious and caring colleagues. My participation facilitated my reflection on how my teaching practices are consistent and supportive of our college’s mission. It also allowed me to develop relationships with faculty and staff throughout the college that I might never have met otherwise.

Matthew Erikson, Ph.d., Professor of Management

As a PC alumna, participating in the Mission Collaborative was a terrific reminder of why I returned to the College as an employee.

Our mission is unique and transformative, yet my relationship with our mission has evolved. As an employee, my experience as part of the Collaborative brought to the forefront that carrying out our Catholic and Dominican teaching to all members of the PC community is an integral part of my role.

The Mission of Providence College is not simply a statement which informs our decisions and policies. It is a way of life, and one that calls us to prayer, contemplation, and regular practice. I walked away from this experience having learned what a privilege it is to be in a position to advance our Mission and our story.

It was a pleasure to partake in Mission Collaborative. I found the sessions to be well thought out and very enlightening. To gather with campus colleagues and engage in such enriched conversation about Providence College, its mission, and the Dominican Order presented me with what I feel was truly a sacred opportunity.
