Learn
In the Dominican tradition, the life of the mind is a form of devotion—an essential part of seeking truth and encountering God.
At Providence College, learning is at the heart of our Catholic and Dominican mission, inviting students, faculty, and staff to engage questions of faith, reason, and the human experience. Through classroom study, conversations about faith in the modern world, and opportunities to learn with the Church around the globe, we offer many paths to deepen understanding. The pursuit of truth here is both intellectual and transformative.
Become Catholic
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) offers a yearlong course of sacramental preparation and faith exploration for students who want to learn about the Catholic faith. The class meets weekly and is designed for those who are seeking to be baptized, were baptized Catholic but have not received their other sacraments of confirmation and/or first communion, and those who were baptized in another Christian denomination but desire to become Catholic.

William J. and Maryann M. Christie Distinguished Catholic Faith Lecture Series
Made possible by the generosity of William J. Christie ’61, ’11Hon. and Maryann M. Christie, these distinguished lectures occur throughout the academic year and explore the Catholic faith in our contemporary times. See some of our 2024-25 lectures!
Smith Fellowships for Service & Study
The Father Philip A. Smith, O.P. Student Fellowships for Study and Service Abroad are awarded on a competitive basis to rising juniors and seniors. The fellowships enable students to undertake summer study or service at Catholic and Dominican sites outside the continental United States. The fellowships cover travel, living, and incidental expenses, and provide fellows with a modest stipend. The fellowships are funded through the generosity of, among others, members of the Providence College Board of Trustees, current and former.
The Fellowships are designed to encourage motivated students to immerse in a global Dominican community, in questions of faith and vocation, and in service or study. Fellows will deepen their acquaintance with the Catholic and Dominican intellectual tradition and the ethos of Christian service, as well as be introduced to the breadth and richness of the church universal.

Theology @ PC
The theology program at Providence College draws upon sacred scripture and the Church’s tradition in pursuing scholarly, theological inquiry “from the heart of the Church.” Our program provides a foundation of knowledge in the teachings of the Catholic Church and explores the best of contemporary scholarship in Scripture, moral and spiritual theology, liturgy, and systematics.
